How do I care for my horse hair item?
Horse hair is naturally strong and durable. You can wear it every day; out to the barn or to parties. The worst thing for your horse hair item is abrasion. If it comes in contact with rough surfaces it will wear the hair and some of the hairs might bend or break. If one of the hairs break and there is a loose end sticking out, it is best to get a sharp pair of scissors and clip off the broken hair as close to the braid as possible. This shouldn't affect the look or quality of your product. If your item becomes dirty you can gently wash it with shampoo, like you would use on your hair, and warm water. Just treat it the same way you would your hair.
Do you put something on the horse hair to make it shiny?
No, I don't put anything on the hair. It naturally gives off a shine when it is braided tight together.
How do I get horse hair from my horse?
Visit the collecting hair tab to the left for specifics. I can only braid hair from the tail of the horse as mane hair is too fine, even if it is long enough.
I only have a little bit of hair from my horse, can you do anything with it?
I can always work with you and design a product that fits the amount of hair you have. Earrings only take a little bit of hair as do zipper pulls. If you only have a small amount of hair but would like a larger product I also have some stock hair I can add to it. Likewise if you only have one color of hair but want a multicolored product I can work with you to use some of my stock hair of another color. I have very limited amounts of horse hair in stock so please contact me for more information on what I can do.
